Where does the time go?

Hello neighbor,

We feel it, too. Every day is a little like playing Tetris with your calendar. All the pieces and time blocks filling in rapidly before you can spin them around. The kids need to get up. The report’s due at work. Phil over in marketing keeps inviting you to Zoom calls taking all your available time during the day.

Slack won’t stop. Emails, where to even begin? The group chat is kicking off about something.

Real life is just stacking up like cordwood, with a zillion little tasks in between. Then there’s the commute and there’s always a wreck on I-65 and now you’re late for this and they’re late for that and on and on and on…

But there’s more. What about all that other time? You know, all the fluff stuff. Add up all that time up over a week and it’s really something. Just look at the numbers:

4 hours

Boone County drivers average 23.6 minutes each way, or 47 minutes a day. Alone.

16 hours

16 hours scrolling social media (2 hr 16 min/day, the U.S. average)

17 hours

Watching, streaming, whatever you call it adds up to 2.5 hours a day.

Wait. Are you about to ask me to put one more thing in this nightmare calendar?

Are you people time vampires?

No, we’re not vampires.

Though we do get a little sleepy after lunch.

Thing is, it’s not just us asking.

Over a dozen young people are waiting for an hour of your time this week.

What if that hour could really do some life-changing, world-altering, perspective-changing, eye-opening good?

1 hour

Of walking, hiking, exercising, or playing a sport for no reason other than it’s fun.

1 hour

Playing a video game with someone next to you? Just like we did growing up!

1 hour

Journaling, meditating, doing yoga, or just sitting quietly and reading a really nice book.

You could be living the sort of deep life other people fake on YouTube and LinkedIn! For real! You don’t even have to take selfies to prove it!

You can start right now. Here’s how becoming a mentor works

1. Say hello

Fill out a short interest form. A real person our office follows up. There’s no commitment here. If you’re not sure, you can schedule a no-risk info session with one of our staff members.

2. Get matched & trained

We handle the background check and a friendly orientation, with a prospective young person at our office.

3. Show up

After some close-knit 1:1 time between all of us, you’re ready to make a schedule that fits real life and not a screen schedule.
