Mentoring can bring a lot of joy and accomplishment to your New Year’s resolutions

Any goal is best-served by having an accountability buddy. Mentoring a young person in our community might be the best way to help you and them reach new heights personally and maybe even professionally.

Mentoring is a great way to improve fitness

Like being outdoors? Want to spend more time in the gym or being active? We can help match caring adults with kids and teens interested in pursuing the same goals. It might be fishing, hiking, spin classes, yoga, or other activities all worth pursuing to improve our fitness and wellbeing.

Mentoring a young person isn’t hard, but it is a responsibility. Seeking a mentor exclusively to help improve your gym routine isn’t the right use of our program. There’s a lot that goes into our matching process. But for the right people, mentoring can be a great way to supplement an existing routine or introduce people to new activities.

Mentoring helps everyone stay committed to goals

It’s not just fitness goals that mentoring can help you with. With the right mentee, you can discover new ways to achieve resolutions to:

  • Be more involved in your community
  • Volunteer more
  • Read more books
  • Learn or hone hobbies and skills, like crafts, woodworking, cooking and meal prep, and more
  • Help mentees stay committed to their academic goals through homework, study, and research time

Great examples of mentoring serving mentor and mentee

Maybe once a week you and your mentee spend time at the library or a coffee shop. They can work on homework while you work on reading new books.

Maybe once a month you both commit to learning something or trying something new, like a new dish, class, or training program.

Maybe both of you discuss setting realistic goals for weightlifting, running, biking, swimming, or some other activity.

Maybe you divide the year into quarters or semesters and take turns setting stretch goals and holding each other accountable.

For many young people, academic goals are obvious choices. This might be ensuring they get a passing grade in a challenging class. For adults, this might be spending less time distracted by our phones. In all cases, it benefits mentor and mentee.
