Child abuse impacts about one out of every five kids in Boone County every year. The impact of that abuse is different for every child, and it can change how some kids respond to other adults, peers, and themselves. That’s why knowing how to interact and understand these experiences can help mentors and adults be better role models for kids.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the first ever Fore the Kids Golf Outing a success. The event was a sell-out with dozens of players and sponsors who helped raise $16,867.
This past winter, I took a course offered by DePauw called “The Skills of Happiness with Professor Doug Smith.” Having heard about these types of classes being offered at Yale and Harvard, I was eager to sign myself up and see what the fuss was all about. To my amazement, this class has changed my life and helped develop some tools that will stay with me throughout life.
Take a minute to think about who has had the most impact in your life. Why did you look up to them? Why did spending time with them mean so much? These questions will help you see why mentoring a young person is so important.
Mentoring a teen can be so rewarding, and extremely beneficial to the young adult who is looking up to you.
